Casey is the founder of The Language Nook, a Mandarin immersion playgroup for children ages 1–4 that brings early language learning to life through play and community. Before launching The Language Nook, Casey served as a faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Information. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University's Media, Technology, and Society program and degrees from the University of Southern California.
Casey is passionate about the intersection of education and family wellness, and believes that thriving children begin with supported, connected communities. A California native who has called New York, Chicago, Michigan, and Florida home before landing in Athens, she knows what it means to build community from scratch — and she's committed to helping other Athens families do the same. She participates in APW's Shades of Strength peer support group and serves as a partner with Mamas Mosaic, where she supports programming centered on Black maternal health and well-being.
Outside of work, Casey loves to travel, get crafty, and unwind with a good K-drama or reality TV binge. She is married and mom to an active toddler and two rambunctious pups, Denzel and Idris.
Casey is thrilled to join the APW board and looks forward to helping build a more connected, well-resourced Athens for parents and children alike.
